Talk:Ship design
From the Galactic Civilizations Wiki
"Existing ships may be upgraded to use these new components, although it is often cheaper to use them as cannon fodder and replace them with newer ships."
Unless there is a new hull ready, it might be better to upgrade the ship because of its extra hp. It will buy cheaper to upgrade than to buy a new ship. Even if you can mass produce ships, ships with high hp will make a fleet more effective. Siel 08:49, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
- I upgrade the ships with experience and sell away the rest to a minor civ or a weak major civ. Upgrading ships is waaaaay too expensive now. Miborovsky 06:16, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Offense-defense relationships
This page has a pair of sentences that seem to describe conflicting math. We need someone who knows the numbers to tell us which of these sentences is correct:
"A defense mechanism used against a mismatched attack is diminished by the square root of the defense value (with a minimum of 1). For example, nine units of shield defenses would only afford the same protection as three units of armor when used to defend against mass drivers."
I read the first sentence to mean that a 9 shield would be reduced to a 6 shield against mass drivers:
Square root of base 9 = 3 "diminished by the square root of the defense value" = 6?
- It should be diminished to, not by. Fixing. --GreenReaper(talk) 17:44, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Circle of influence for Constructors
I don't know about anyone else, but I wish that when I click on a constructor it's "circle of influence" was as bright as when I click on a starbase. I know, I know...what a sniggly little thing to bring up, but on my display, at least, it can be difficult to see. Why is it so much more transparent for a constructor anyway? After all, isn't the idea for the player to SEE the area of potential influence a would-be starbase would have?
